Get Out of the Box

Ever find yourself stuck inside a box (maybe not even one you created yourself, but one that others want you to fit into.) As I look back over my life I remember times where I tried fitting someone else’s thoughts of who or what they thought I should be, trying to fit that “mold.” However, there’s a beauty in finding out that we don’t have to fit into a “mold” we are all uniquely created by God and as a result HE has a plan & purpose for our lives. His “mold” is the only one we need to worry about fitting into. God doesn’t create a one size fits all type of people, HE says we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” I challenge you to think outside the box you’ve been trying to fit into.
If God’s placed something on your heart go after it, don’t be afraid of what others may think or say, remember we are here to point people to Christ not worry about what someone may think of us. What would happen if we all (myself included) sought to truly please God alone and forget what others think we should be doing.
I challenge you (and me) this week to get out of the box and see what God has waiting for us!

Snow Days

Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes…this weekend we took a trip up to Big Bear with some friends. Although I’ve lived in California my whole life it was my first time up there and it was beautiful (cold for this OC girl) but beautiful. We did some tubing which was super fun and were lucky enough for it to snow while we were there. Another great weekend adventure is in the books!

Rainy Day Bliss

I love rainy days, call me crazy but here in So Cal they are few and far between…so when they come I milk it for all it’s worth. My hubby and I enjoyed a great afternoon date at starbucks between church (yes, I am  the crazy one that got a smoothie) FYI the smoothie tastes as good as it looks- if you have a nekter juice bar near you it’s a must try the pink flamingo 🙂 It seems we have some of our best conversations when it’s just the 2 of us sitting in the coffee shop, I love those times. We were dreaming and talking about the future. So thankful he’s the one I get to do life with, it’s such a blessing to be able to sit there and dream and look forward to the things that are ahead! Hope you all have a fabulous week! Amy

Waiting for a Blessing

How many times have you caught yourself saying or thinking “I’m just waiting for a blessing.” This is something I’ve been guilty of but lately I’ve been convicted to change that thought.

Truth be told life can get  pretty messy when we start to think God owes us something. Reality check starts when I think that even if God never gave me any other blessing in my life He has given me far beyond what I deserve already. The fact that He loves me and saved me is the greatest blessing of my life.

Instead of “waiting for a blessing” I have been convicted to be a blessing. Now, I may not be able to do much but I am determined to use what I have to try and help those God has put in my path. Let’s be the blessing rather than wait for a blessing and see what God can do through us and how He can change our lives.

Weekend Recap

Well, the weather has been gorgeous lately in So Cal so the hubby and I decided to take advantage of it. We visited Crystal Cove over the weekend for some outdoor fitness (to help us feel better about indulging in valentines day treats) can it get any better, sunshine, the beach and my hot hubby!!! I now feel energized and ready to tackle a busy week! We have some exciting things coming up in our little family…stay tuned for more details.image

Of course a date is not a date without an usie (my word for a couple selfie 😉

Morning Essentials

It was nice to enjoy a bit of a slower pace this morning, here are a few of my morning essentials. If you are looking for an encouraging devotional I highly recomend Portraits of Devotion by Beth Moore – I just started it this year but so far everything I’ve read has challenged and encouraged me in my walk. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

The Month of Love

Well, believe it or not we have made it to February, (time flies) February is one of my favorite months, for a few reasons but number one is it’s my hubby’s birthday month! Another reason I love this month is Valentine’s Day (I mean I’m always game for any holiday that gives me a reason to splurge on anything pink and sweets) I know what some of you are thinking…”ugh, I can’t stand Valentine’s Day” I have been there (more times than I care to admit) In recent years my idea of Valentine’s Day has evolved and I’d like to share a little with you about what I see this holiday as now.

Maybe you think (like many people do) that Valentine’s Day is strictly for couples…that’s how I used to see it…I mean how can we not think that way, every commercial I see on t.v. is geared towards couples. Recently I’ve had a new perspective on this holiday…think with me for a second. What if we used this holiday that is all about love and we used it to actually show love to everyone we hold dear…parents, siblings, friends, spouses, strangers etc. Of course those of us with significant others most likely already planned on showing love to ours but what if we thought outside the box.                               balloons

What if for one day we focused on showing love to those around us, those we pass throughout our day? Think of what an impact one small act of kindness could have, we never know what someone may be going through. As a Christian I know that I should love others all the time not just on holidays but truth be told life gets busy, stress comes and sometimes I just don’t feel like showing love to others. I am challenging myself to find small ways to show Christ’s love to others on a daily basis but I want to be specifically mindful of it on Valentine’s Day this year and I challenge you to join me.

Let’s spark a change and show love! Be the difference and show love this Valentine’s Day

Resolutions…we all make them and if you’re anything like the majority of people, myself included topping your lists is to lose weight or get healthier. In fact, it seems to be the topic of many conversations I find myself having lately. Why not, I mean it’s a new year, new you right (at least that’s the idea anyways)

For years these 2 resolutions have always found their way onto my list and honestly I’ve often found myself consumed with it. There is so much pressure in today’s society for women to look a certain way and be a certain size when in reality we are all beautiful in our own way…in fact, God created us just the way He wanted us. Let that sink in for a moment…that thing about your body you absolutely hate, God made it.

Lately I’ve been wondering what God’s take is on this whole idea of weight and health and what I found was convicting to me…let me share what I’ve learned. In I Corinthians 6:19 we are told that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. That means that for those of us that have trusted Jesus as our Saviour He lives inside of us and is with us all the time…pretty amazing thought! When I started thinking about this in relation to health it brought some new things to light for me that I hope will be a help to you. It’s not about a number that we may see when we step on a scale (and yes, I know first hand how hard it is to get past that number) it is about taking care of the body God has given us. We are only given one body in our lifetime and if we desire to be used by God to the fullest it is vital that we keep ourselves healthy so that we can accomplish what He has called us to do.

It’s so easy to become a slave to our appetites and let them control us…I mean who wouldn’t like to live solely off cupcakes, burgers and ice cream??? Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with indulging (anyone that knows me knows I do) but the key here is balance. Remember our goal is to protect our temple and keep it functioning at it’s best so we can best fulfill our purpose.

For 2015 I encourage you to forget the number, you are so much more than what the scale says and rather focus on being healthy so you can fulfill your role God has given you and live your life on purpose and be the healthiest version of yourself!
